Navigant Financial Education Spotlight: Supporting Local Students Through Interactive “Life Simulation/Reality Fair” Experience

Navigant Credit Union is dedicated to investing in the education and well-being of our community. That starts early and often. We believe that supporting our students and young leaders is an essential part of developing a thriving economy where people can feel confident in their financial success. The following is just one example of how we’re engaging with local schools to provide students with the resources and skills they need to step confidently into their financial futures.

Reality Fair Spotlight

This spring, Navigant Credit Union hosted an engaging, hands-on “Life Simulation/Reality Fair” for 110 middle school students at Monsignor Clarke School, introducing them to real-world financial decision-making and everyday life skills in a supportive, educational setting.

During the simulation, students were each assigned a career and corresponding salary, then challenged to navigate the financial responsibilities that come with independent living. As they moved through the experience, students made decisions around essential expenses such as housing, transportation, food, and entertainment—learning firsthand how to build and manage a budget.

The interactive format encouraged students to think critically about their choices, weigh priorities, and understand the trade-offs that come with managing money in the real world.

Setting Students Up for Success

In addition to financial literacy, the program also incorporated elements of career readiness. As part of the simulation, students participated in mock interviews with employees of Navigant Credit Union, helping them build confidence, communication skills, and professionalism.

This experience gives students a meaningful glimpse into the responsibilities and decisions they will face in the future. Navigant Credit Union’s goal is to empower young people with the knowledge and confidence they need to make smart financial choices.

The “Life Simulation” also reflects Monsignor Clarke School’s commitment to educating the whole child—combining academic learning with practical life skills and character development. By creating opportunities for experiential learning, the school continues to prepare students not just for the classroom, but for life beyond it.

Students left the experience with a stronger understanding of financial responsibility, a greater appreciation for thoughtful decision-making, and increased confidence in their ability to navigate future challenges.
